Now, you know that it will. The key questions are\u00a0how quickly, how deeply and how that\u00a0changes\u00a0relationships with managed services partners (MSPs)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-managed-services-have-focused-on-stability\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Managed\u00a0Services have focused on stability<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traditionally,\u00a0managed services clients wanted\u00a0stability and reliability.\u00a0Clients valued predictable operations,\u00a0repeatable processes,\u00a0standardisation, reduced\u00a0risk of\u00a0change, and fixed support models. MSPs\u00a0therefore\u00a0focused on minimising disruption,\u00a0maintaining\u00a0uptime, process discipline, operational consistency, ticket resolution metrics, and SLAs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of this meant&nbsp;a measured&nbsp;rate of change&nbsp;driven by periodic&nbsp;platform migrations,&nbsp;annual refresh&nbsp;cycles&nbsp;and&nbsp;quarterly reviews.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This contrasts sharply with AI-era expectations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-ai-is-accelerating-operational-change\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AI is accelerating operational change<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You know from your own experience that\u00a0AI is developing quickly\u00a0\u2013 and much faster\u00a0than enterprise IT operational models.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within&nbsp;Microsoft\u2019s AI ecosystem&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;seeing&nbsp;continuous&nbsp;evolution:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Copilot capabilities changing monthly\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>new agents and automations\u00a0emerging\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>developing\u00a0governance controls\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>rapid feature rollout across\u00a0Microsoft\u00a0365.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also know that\u00a0many\u00a0<strong>employees are no class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whereas historically&nbsp;IT drove&nbsp;new technology&nbsp;introductions, now&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;seeing employees independently&nbsp;discovering AI tools&nbsp;and creating automations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This changes the client-MSP dynamic.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the AI era static support models&nbsp;will become unsustainable.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-ai-is-changing-expectations-of-it-support\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AI is changing\u00a0expectations of IT support<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re becoming\u00a0more\u00a0accustomed to\u00a0Copilot-style interactions and\u00a0natural language requests, along with AI-assisted productivity.\u00a0As a result, traditional support experiences can begin to feel slow or outdated.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of whether&nbsp;you handle first-line support in-house or through an MSP,&nbsp;your&nbsp;users are expecting:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>greater\u00a0immediacy\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>conversational interfaces\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>intelligent\u00a0assistance\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>self-service\u00a0and\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>proactive support.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And not just ticket queues.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This adds to the pressure for MSPs&nbsp;to improve&nbsp;support delivery with modernised workflows, knowledge management, and&nbsp;automation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI&nbsp;is&nbsp;changing&nbsp;the tempo of IT operations,&nbsp;and&nbsp;not just the tooling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-boundaries-between-support-automation-and-consultancy-are-blurring\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Boundaries between support, automation, and consultancy are blurring<\/strong>\u00a0<br><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-boundaries-between-support-automation-and-consultancy-are-blurring-traditionally-support-projects-consultancy-and-automation-have-been-distinct-disciplines-and-in-many-organisations-still-are-but-as-the-ai-era-develops-organisations-will-need-faster-operational-evolution\">Traditionally, support,\u00a0projects,\u00a0consultancy, and\u00a0automation\u00a0have been\u00a0distinct disciplines, and in many organisations still are.\u00a0But\u00a0as the\u00a0AI era\u00a0develops organisations will need\u00a0faster\u00a0operational evolution.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Support&nbsp;will need to become more&nbsp;consultative,&nbsp;broadening the role of&nbsp;your&nbsp;MSP to include:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>automating\u00a0operational tasks\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>continuously\u00a0optimising\u00a0workflows\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>recommending\u00a0governance improvements\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>building\u00a0AI-assisted processes\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>helping\u00a0govern employee-built agents.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This&nbsp;is a fundamental shift from&nbsp;simply managing infrastructure,&nbsp;to&nbsp;managing continuous operational change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it calls into question the&nbsp;very&nbsp;essence of traditional&nbsp;MSP relationships.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-static-service-models-will-be-increasingly-divergent-from-need\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Static\u00a0service models will be increasingly divergent\u00a0from need<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re already seeing that\u00a0AI changes environments too quickly for\u00a0traditional approaches to remain fully effective.\u00a0Approaches that are\u00a0characterised\u00a0by rigid operational models, fixed, often\u00a0inflexible,\u00a0scopes,\u00a0and\u00a0static service catalogues.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI capabilities&nbsp;are&nbsp;evolving much&nbsp;faster than contract cycles.&nbsp;The rapid changes&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;seeing&nbsp;with data&nbsp;governance,&nbsp;Purview, AI&nbsp;policies&nbsp;and compliance&nbsp;underline this.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New operational&nbsp;requirements and opportunities are&nbsp;emerging&nbsp;all the time and&nbsp;MSPs&nbsp;will&nbsp;need to be&nbsp;much more adaptive.&nbsp;At the moment&nbsp;we might consider the following:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AI-assisted ticket triage\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>workflow automation\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>intelligent reporting\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>predictive remediation.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But&nbsp;in a few&nbsp;months,&nbsp;this may&nbsp;have evolved&nbsp;so&nbsp;MSPs need to be&nbsp;capable of being highly adaptive.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-to-be-of-value-your-msp-needs-to-be-your-operational-evolution-partner\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To be of value your MSP\u00a0needs to be your \u2018Operational Evolution Partner\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI is changing the way\u00a0organisations and people work.\u00a0To be of value to their clients\u00a0MSPs need to change the way they work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of&nbsp;maintaining&nbsp;static environments, MSPs&nbsp;need to be working with&nbsp;their&nbsp;clients to&nbsp;enable&nbsp;operational&nbsp;evolution.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This&nbsp;requires MSPs to help:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>evaluating\u00a0changes\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>operationalising\u00a0changes\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>governing\u00a0them and\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>safely\u00a0pacing\u00a0change.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It requires MSPs to have&nbsp;the knowledge&nbsp;to&nbsp;enable&nbsp;clients to achieve and&nbsp;maintain&nbsp;AI-enabled operational maturity.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-governance-is-central\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Governance\u00a0is central<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where governance considerations were once peripheral,\u00a0with AI\u00a0they become central.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faster operational change&nbsp;creates greater demands on governance&nbsp;\u2013 and with AI the emphasis needs to be on safe operation rather than restriction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are big questions around&nbsp;the&nbsp;governance of:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>employee-built agents\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AI-assisted workflows\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>data exposure\u00a0and\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>automation governance.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally,&nbsp;your&nbsp;Microsoft&nbsp;environment&nbsp;is evolving unusually quickly.&nbsp;We\u2019re&nbsp;seeing&nbsp;repeated changes to&nbsp;Copilot, Fabric, Purview, Defender,&nbsp;Sentinel,&nbsp;Entra, agentic capabilities, Power Platform&nbsp;many with governance implications.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MSP\u2019s&nbsp;will&nbsp;need to&nbsp;have&nbsp;the&nbsp;operational experience of managing these&nbsp;changes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-questions-to-ask-an-msp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Questions\u00a0to ask an\u00a0MSP<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask\u00a0an\u00a0MSP\u00a0about how they use and manage AI.\u00a0Consider:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Operational adaptability<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 How do you evolve operations?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>AI governance<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 How do you govern AI use within your organisation?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Automation strategy<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Which\u00a0operational processes are already AI-assisted?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Human oversight<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Where does human validation remain mandatory?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Visibility\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 How\u00a0do you\u00a0monitor\u00a0shadow AI or unofficial automation?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Commercial evolution<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 How\u00a0does AI\u00a0alter your\u00a0service model?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Microsoft readiness<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 How\u00a0do you assess and operationalise new Microsoft AI capabilities?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-a-different-commercial-model\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>A\u00a0different commercial model<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Historically, ticket volume\u00a0has\u00a0been the basis\u00a0of\u00a0managed services\u00a0commercial relationships.\u00a0Value has been\u00a0directly linked\u00a0to\u00a0human\u00a0effort.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But&nbsp;AI can&nbsp;automate&nbsp;repetitive operational work.&nbsp;For clients there is clear value&nbsp;in&nbsp;faster, more efficient incident resolution.&nbsp;But if&nbsp;AI reduces effort, should service costs reduce too?&nbsp;If&nbsp;operational AI transformation&nbsp;requires investment,&nbsp;who&nbsp;should&nbsp;fund that?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whereas traditional IT projects have been&nbsp;a very clear&nbsp;transformation from here to there. In the AI era, customers expect MSP relationships to support continuous operational evolution of platforms and services. This requires a more flexible commercial model,&nbsp;perhaps based&nbsp;on shared rewards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-human-element-becomes-more-not-less-important\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The\u00a0human\u00a0element\u00a0becomes\u00a0more, not less, important!<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI promises\u00a0significant productivity gains, so\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0perhaps\u00a0counterintuitive\u00a0to suggest that the human element will become more important.\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But as AI accelerates,&nbsp;governance,&nbsp;prioritisation,&nbsp;business judgement,&nbsp;trust,&nbsp;pacing, and&nbsp;risk management&nbsp;will become more important.
