With three years at Cloud Direct and a background spanning telecoms and marketing, we shine the spotlight on Kim to learn more about her role as Marketing Events Manager, what goes into delivering standout events, and the journey that brought her here.

Tell us a bit about your role at Cloud Direct and what a usual day looks like

I’ve been part of the team for more than three years now and my role is wonderfully varied, which is one of the things I enjoy most about it.

No two days look quite the same. Depending on what I’m focusing on, I might be setting up LinkedIn Ads, creating email campaigns, event planning, coordinating activity with colleagues and partners, or looking at ways to help our marketing campaigns reach the right people.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I love travelling, exploring new countries, and learning about different cultures. I’ve also always enjoyed filming and editing videos, so I decided to combine the two by starting my own YouTube channel, where I can capture and share my travel experiences.

When I’m having a quieter day off, I also enjoy playing cosy games like Stardew Valley, Planet Zoo, and Coral Island. They’re a lovely way to switch off and relax.

What brought you to Cloud Direct and how did you get here?

I previously lived in London, but after the pandemic my fiancé and I relocated to the South West. I had spent five years working in the telecoms industry and felt ready for a new challenge in a different sector.

Cloud Direct felt like a great opportunity to take that next step, so I took the leap, applied – and voilà, here I am!

What’s the best part of your job?

One of the best parts of my job is getting to meet and work with so many different people, from new prospects and customers to partners, suppliers, and colleagues across the business.

I also really enjoy the logistical side of events and the process of bringing everything together. It’s never just about hiring a venue. There are speakers to brief, teams to coordinate with, suppliers to manage, and lots of small details that all need to come together at the right time.

There are plenty of spinning plates, but I enjoy project managing it all and seeing an event come to life from start to finish.

What’s the best thing about working at Cloud Direct?

One of the best things about working at Cloud Direct is the balance of a great environment and great people. Our head office is right in the centre of Bath, which is lovely, although admittedly not always ideal for my wallet!

The office itself is a brilliant space for collaboration, and it really encourages people to connect and work together. More than anything, though, it’s the people who make it special. Everyone is friendly, approachable, and always happy to help, and we have regular socials that make it easy to get to know colleagues beyond day-to-day work.

What project are you most proud of?

I’m really proud of the first ever Cloud Direct Golf Day in support of Dorothy House. It brought together customers, prospects and partners for a brilliant day in aid of a cause that means a lot to our local community. The day included a morning briefing, a special talk from Dorothy House, breakfast, playing on the 18-championship course, and a BBQ to finish. While I wasn’t playing myself, I did enjoy doing the rounds in the refreshment cart!

I’m proud of this project because it was the first event of its kind for us, and it was amazing to see so many people get involved and support it. Most importantly, we raised over £6,070 for Dorothy House, which made all the planning and hard work feel incredibly worthwhile.

What advice would you give to someone looking to progress into a role like yours?

My advice would be to focus on organisation, communication and staying calm when there are lots of moving parts. Events management often means juggling multiple priorities at once, from timelines and suppliers to attendees, speakers and last-minute changes, so being able to keep everything on track is really important.

I also think it helps if you naturally enjoy planning. If you’re the person organising the family holiday, booking the hotels, sorting the flights and planning the activities, you probably already have a good instinct for it. The key is being detail-oriented, proactive and comfortable adapting when things don’t go exactly to plan.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Something people might be surprised to learn is that English is my second language. I was born and raised in the Philippines, so Tagalog was my first language. I moved to the UK when I was seven and, funnily enough, I learnt a lot of my English by watching Friends.
