Search
This section describes the SkyKick Cloud Backup capabilities when searching Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint. It also contains a section describing the Advanced Search capability.
Exchange Online
To ensure privacy, Cloud Backup does not index the content within the body of emails or their attachments. Cloud Backup also does not support eDiscovery.
In Cloud Backup for Exchange, you can browse through folders or search for individual folder or items by:
- Email subject
- Email Attachment filename
- Email Sender
The search will uncover every email, folder, and contact, that includes the words you enter. You can filter the results by entering additional words into the search field, or you can sort the results by:
- Date
- Folder location
- Sent by
- Subject
You can also filter the results by date, including:
- Last 24 hours
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
- Last 3 months
- Last 6 months
- Last 12 months
To narrow your search, you can also use the following Smart Search tags:
- To:[Recipient Name]
- From:[Sender Name]
- Subject:[Subject Keyword]
To perform a search and restore of data in Exchange Online, see KB0012380, SkyKick - Restoring Office 365 Exchange Data.
OneDrive for Business
To ensure privacy, Cloud Backup does not index the content of files.
In Cloud Backup for OneDrive for Business, you can browse through folders or search for folders and files by name, and can sort the results by:
- File name
- File type
- Location
- Modified date
You can also filter the results by date, including:

- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days

To perform a search and restore of data in OneDrive for Business, see KB0012381, SkyKick - Restoring Office 365 OneDrive for Business Data.

To ensure privacy, Cloud Backup does not index the content of files or lists.
In Cloud Backup for SharePoint, you can search for files by file name, and can sort the results by:
- File name
- File type
- Location
- Modified date
- Modified by
In Cloud Backup for SharePoint, you can search for subsites, lists, and list items, as follows:

- The following list types have exceptions:

To perform a search and restore of data in SharePoint, see KB0012384, SkyKick - Restoring Office 365 SharePoint Data.
Advanced Search
Cloud Backup also offers Advanced Search options, including:
- Elasticsearch
- Wildcard Characters
- Regular Expression (RegEx)
For more information on Advanced Search in Cloud Backup, see KB0012379, SkyKick - Advanced Search.
Restore
This section describes the SkyKick Cloud Backup capabilities when restoring data with Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint. It begins with an Overview of the restore capabilities.
Overview
Cloud Backup does not overwrite data at any time.
Individual items are restored to the location they were at the time of the last backup. If an item being restored already exists in that location, it will be restored as a duplicate.
While a restore is initiated with a single click, and Cloud Backup makes every effort to restore the content as quickly as possible, the time required to complete a restoration is based on a variety of external factors, including:
- The overall size of the data set being restored.
- Microsoft Office 365 throttling.
- Microsoft Azure throttling.
- The overall availability of Office 365.
Exchange Online
In addition to restoring the individual items from a search, Cloud Backup for Exchange provides the ability to perform the following bulk restores.
- Full user mailbox
- Full calendar
- All contacts
- All tasks
- All notes
- All journals
- Full mailbox folder
Note:
Any number of individual items can be restored at any time. However, while a backup job is running on the mailbox, bulk restore options are unavailable.
When a bulk restore is performed, the restored data is merged with existing content. In other words, the data is de-duplicated before it is inserted into the mailbox. Cloud Backup does not overwrite data at any time.
During a restoration, you can view the status by hovering over the progress indicator next to the mailbox being restored.
If a folder has been deleted, Cloud Backup will recreate the folder architecture and restore the file in that recreated architecture.
For security and privacy purposes, Cloud Backup does not restore email data to a PST or another mailbox (cross-restore). To restore data for a deleted mailbox, recreate an individual (licensed) or shared (unlicensed) mailbox with the same SMTP address, and restore to that location.
OneDrive for Business
In addition to restoring all file types and versions, Cloud Backup for OneDrive for Business provides the ability to perform the following bulk restores.
- Full Account
- Folders
- Subfolders
- All Files
- All Versions
SharePoint
In SharePoint, you can restore:
- Site Collections
- Subsites
- SharePoint Lists
- SharePoint List items. (Exception: Events (Calendar) can only be restored as a full calendar)
- All File Types
- All Versions
Every SharePoint or OneDrive for Business file is restored as a new item because Cloud Backup does not overwrite existing items. If the item being restored already exists, then Cloud Backup will add the restored item back to the site collection with its name appended with a number in parentheses, e.g. Filename (1).
If the folder which contained the item no longer exists, then Cloud Backup will recreate the folder architecture and restore the file. However, if the site collection or sub site which contained the item was deleted, an admin would need to recreate the site collection manually before clicking to restore the file.
